Update!

I had my interview this morning with Knobbe, Martens, Olson, & Bear. I realized I hadn't mentioned who I was interviewing with when I posted about scheduling the interview. They are an intellectual property law firm, so they do patents, trademarks, copyrights and things relating to those matters. It is a pretty large firm with offices in CA (5), Seattle, and DC. The office here is fairly small, there are 10 people (including the position I interviewed for). It is located right in the heart of downtown in Union Square. The office is on the 39th floor and as I was waiting for my interview I had a beautiful view of the city and Mt. Ranier!

I think things went well. It was a little awkward because the 2 ladies interveiwing me were in San Diego, so my interivew was via video. It was pretty weird to not be sitting in the same room with them and there was some definite lag in the feed, but all and all I am confident in my "performance." I should find out Monday or Tuesday if I have been hired and then starting the following week.

When I was told my dad about my interview he told me, "This is your job, Cara!" And I completely agree! Only time will tell...

Good News!!

I have an interview tomorrow morning!!! I am so excited!! I feel pretty confident that this is the job for me. It will get my foot in the door of the legal world and allow me the opportunity to learn and improve my skills. Say a little prayer for me!

Yumminess!!

When I was on my mission my companion and I wanted to make some banana bread with our old bananas but I kept forgetting to ask my mom for a recipe. We used to go visit an older couple on Saturdays and so we asked her how to make banana bread. Boy am I glad that we did! She gave us the best recipe ever!! From that transfer on I think I made banana bread at least 2x each transfer!! I made some a few weeks ago and Eric loved it.

Eric, the lucky man that he is, got some fresh banana bread for breakfast this morning. The batch turned out kind of funny, I'm not sure what went wrong. But it still tastes yummy!

This past weekend he told me that I needed to put the recipe on our blog. So here it is.....

3/4 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. mashed bananas (about 3 large)
1/2 c. brown sugar
6 Tbl. buttermilk
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. nuts (optional)

Cream together the first 6 ingredients then add the dry ingredients. Pour into greased bread pans and bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes. Muffins bake for 20-30 minutes.

I like to sprinkle sugar in the bread pan before I pour in the batter and then sprinkle some on top as well. It makes a nice sweet crispy crust!

Yum!! Don't worry, it's husband approved!! Hope you Enjoy!

YAY!!!

I had a phone interview this morning!!

Yay!!

I applied for a receptionist position at a firm in Seattle like 2 weeks ago and I had kind of forgotten about it and put it in the "Oh well, on to the next one" pile. So I was pretty surprised by the phone call. But I pulled myself together and had a pretty good interview (at least in my opinion). I should hear by the end of the week if I am going to be called in for a second interview (which will be a video interview since the headquarters are in San Diego)!!!

Cross your fingers and say a prayer for me!!

President's Day, Pike's Place, and a Troll....

So Eric had President's Day off!! Yay!! I was so excited because he didn't think that he would have it off. I feel like Saturday gets eaten up with chores and getting things done, so it was nice to have an extra day that we could do something fun with!

We decided to go into the city to visit Pike's Place Market because Eric hasn't really ever been before. We took Eric's sister, Lyssa, with us and a good time while spending too much money (we probably shouldn't have spent any at all)! I was really excited to go because my favorite jewelry store, Cintli, is there!! (Fortunately for me the entire store was 30% off!). I got some really cute red earrings, which I have been wanting to get for awhile. It was a gorgeous day! The sun was out and it wasn't too cold.

While we were walking around Pike's we thought it would be fun to take Lyssa to see the Fremont Troll. It was a pretty happening place, but we managed to get some fun pictures!

There we all are! It's a little hard to tell, but Eric has his arm up the Troll's nose! We already had lunch, so I don't know what he's doing!!

Just giving the Troll a little lovin'!

And that's my husband!!! Always the character!!

Yay for Eric having a day off and being able to play with me!

A Happy Valentine's Day!

So this was our first Valentine's Day together. I told Eric that he was in charge of Valentine's Day and it was pretty much unspoken that it was going to be a surprise. He had fun laughing at me during the weeks leading up to Valentine's as I would ask him what he was planning and what we were going to be doing. And on a number of occasions he would actually say, "Nothing!" A few days before I was again asking him what we were going to do and he of course would tell me nothing at all. I told him that I didn't like surprises and he said, "Yes you do, you just don't like waiting for them!" Which is completely true, and probably the reason why I snoop into Christmas presents (even if they aren't mine)!!

Anyways, I still wanted to plan something for Eric for Valentine's day so I decided that I would do it for breakfast. I always make breakfast on Saturdays so I had to come up with something that was a little more special. We have this awesome cookie cutter set that has the entire alphabet so I decided I would make pancakes and leave him a message with a stack of heart pancakes. So this was his Valentine's breakfast...

After breakfast I made some sugar cookies and we had tons of fun decorating them...

Eric planned a wonderful afternoon for us!! I love painting pottery, so he took me to a place in Federal Way. I have been many times to paint pottery, but it was time to do this with Eric, and I especially love that he chose to do it because he knew it is something that I would enjoy. After we got done painting pottery we went to a small little Italian place and enjoyed some pasta and dessert. I love Eric so much and I am so happy that he made our first Valentine's Day special and memorable! I look forward to many more!

No power :-(

So...I was sitting on the couch this morning working on homework and filling out a job application and all of a sudden the power goes out! I remembered that last week we had a notice on our door that told us our power would be out for maintenance or something, but it didn't have a date or time on it. I had meant to call about it, but misplaced the notice and so therefore misplaced it out of my mind. Anyways....I didn't think it would be for very long so I just curled up some more in my blanket and continued to work on homework. It got to be around 12:00 (the power went out at 9:50) and I was hungry...so with no power and nothing in the house except chips and granola bars that can be eaten without being heated up I ate cold leftovers! Not so yummy. Around 2:00 Eric called to check up on me and since the power was still out he called the power company. Well, the automated system said the power should be back up around 6:00! It was already cold in the house so I decided it was time to go run errands with Eric's sister and then hang out with her where it was warm! I got home about 6:15 and still no power! Eric was working late and so we met for dinner at got home about 20 minutes ago....and as we were coming around the corner to our condo the power came on! Good timing for us! Not so much for the power company!
11 hours later we have our power (and our heat) back on!! Good thing it wasn't too cold today!

Decorating

So we have been in our Condo since the middle of November (well Eric has been here since October) and I finally have one wall decorated. My Aunt and Uncle gave us some beautiful framed pictures that my uncle took in Italy and those became the focus of our "dining room" decor. I bought some shelves at the after Christmas sales and we (meaning mostly Eric) finally got them up in our living a few weeks ago. Our living room and dining room share one long wall and once we had the wall decorations up in both rooms we had a big empty space in between. I was at Ross 2 weeks ago and found a beautiful round candle sconce that was just perfect (and the price was pretty nice as well)!! So viola! My wall is decorated!

I don't think these pictures really do justice to my beautiful wall, but Jennie has been begging me for some pictures. So here we go....

So, this is the entire wall living room - dining room wall (and our bookcase that looks kind of messy, but it really isn't!)

Here is a long shot of the dining room with the round space filler sconce.

And here are the beautiful pictures from my uncle. They are pictures of some gorgeous Italian windows. We got the clock for our weddng as well and thought it would look nice with the pictures. I wanted something to finish off the wall, so we bought some sconces at Wal-Mart.

Here is a long shot of the living room wall and our lovely couch. (I am going to recover the pillows with my mom's help....hopefully we can get that done soon).

And a close up of our shelves. The pictures are some of our favorite engagement pictures and the ones that sat on our guest book table at our wedding reception.

Now I just have to work on the wall opposite the dining room wall......

A new calling....

So, I got a call from one of the counselors in our Bishopric on Saturday night, and of course he wanted to speak with me the next morning. I knew that he was the counselor over the youth program so I kind of thought I would be in Young Women's. So, drum roll please........I am the new Laurel Advisor (so I will be teaching the 16-17 year old girls). I am pretty excited for this new calling. It's kind of weird though, because even though I am almost 10 year older than them I don't feel old enough to be their teacher! There are 3 girls who actively come to church each week. I was actually asked to come and speak as part of their lesson yesterday before I even had my call so I got to sit in with them. They are all pretty cute and I can't wait to get to know them better.
